New Delhi: The Centre on Saturday called a high-level meeting amid reports that the terror group Islamic State is planning a major strike in India.
Home Secretary LC Goyal has called the meeting which is being attended DGPs and Home Secretaries of 12 states.
The meeting comes in the wake of reports that the IS is preparing to attack India to provoke an Armageddon-like confrontation with the US. Reports suggested that the IS is on a recruitment drive.
The officials would discuss ways and means to deter youngsters from joining the group, sources said.
Efforts are also on to include community elders to help the young dissuade from getting attracted towards the ideology of the terror group, the sources added.
An investigative story published by the USA Today and reported by American Media Institute referred to a 32-page Urdu document obtained from a Pakistani citizen with connections inside the Pakistani Taliban. "The document warns that 'preparations' for an attack in India are underway and predicts that an attack will provoke an apocalyptic confrontation with America," the report said.
