Congress leaders from Telangana region to press for a separate state today.

New Delhi: Congress leaders from Telangana region are expected to meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday to press for the introduction of a bill for statehood.

The leaders met on Tuesday to decide on the future course of action on separate statehood.

Congress MPs, MLAs, MLCs and local leaders have also passed a resolution seeking the introduction of the Telangana Bill in the budget session.

Telangana Cong leaders have also suggested that if their demands are not met, they would be willing to resign from their posts as a last resort.

The leaders wanted that the fifth option of Telangana suggested by the Srikrishna Committee be honoured.

Based on the analysis of various parameters the Committee has examined in detail the issues pertaining to current demand for a separate State of Telangana as well as the demand for maintaining the present status of keeping the State united.

The fifth option of the report suggested bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and Seemandhra as per existing boundaries with Hyderabad as the capital of Telangana and Seemandhra to have a new capital. But after taking into account of the pros and cons the Committee did not think it to be the most preferred, but the second best option.
