Cong MLA claims Shekhawat asked him for support

New Delhi: The battle for Presidential poll may be clearly polarised in favour of UPA candidate Pratibha Patil, but that hasn’t stopped NDA-backed candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat is to make last ditch attempts at swinging votes in his favour.

Hectic lobbying is on in political circles and various claims are being made a day ahead of the big voting day. On Wednesday, Haryana Irrigation Minister Ajay Yadav claimed Shekhawat called him and many other Congress legislators seeking their support.

"I got a call on my official mobile from the Vice President on Monday. One of his staff members said Shekhawat wanted to talk to me. Then, he was on line and sought my support," Yadav was quoted by agencies as saying.

Yadav, also claimed Shekhawat approached many other Independent candidates as well. A Congress MLA from

Rewari, Yadav said he told Shekhawat that he was a staunch Congressman and would cast his vote in favour of Pratibha Patil. "Shekhawat told me that it was his duty to call him and then disconnected the phone," Yadav was quoted as saying.

Congress 67 MLAs in Haryana House of 90. While INLD has nine members, BJP has two and BSP and NCP one each. There are 10 Independents.
