Day After Vacating Govt Bungalow, Akhilesh Cycles to Gomti River Front to Play Cricket
The Supreme Court had on May 7, 2018, said former chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh cannot retain government accommodation after demitting office.

Lucknow: A day after vacating the government bungalow as directed by the Supreme Court, former CM Akhilesh Yadav used it as an opportunity to get to meet ordinary citizens and gauge their mood.

Having spent the night at the VVIP guest house, Akhilesh, dressed in a white kurta-pyjama, rode a bicycle to Gomti river front and met morning walkers. He was also seen clicking selfies with them. He then stopped to play cricket with a group of youngsters and was seen wielding the bat to good effect.

Gomti river front was one of the ambitious projects of Samajwadi Party government. Speaking to the morning walkers, Akhilesh said that he will keep a watch on the projects that his government had built.

Earlier on Saturday evening, Akhilesh went to Janeshwar Mishra Park, another ambitious project of the Samajwadi Party government. After reaching Janeshwar Mishra Park, Akhilesh said, “Government facilities can never be permanent, we respect honourable court’s decision and that is why we have vacated the bungalow. I have an old habit of exercising, there is no place now so I came here, this park was also built by SP Government. Now I will be visiting all the projects by SP Government, It’s good to meet people.”

The Supreme Court had on May 7, 2018, said former chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh cannot retain government accommodation after demitting office. Following the order, the UP government on May 17 issued notices to Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Kalyan Singh, Mayawati, Rajnath Singh and Akhilesh Yadav to vacate the bungalows.
