DMK should pull out of UPA on SL Tamils issue: BJP
"The UPA has no right to remain in power as it is not in favour of the Tamils," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain added.

New Delhi: The DMK should withdraw its support to the UPA Government, the BJP said on Sunday as it attacked the Centre for ignoring the plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka. "DMK is part of the Government today and was part of the UPA when the 'atrocities' were being committed against Tamils in Sri Lanka. DMK needs to withdraw support from the UPA. The UPA has no right to remain in power as it is not in favour of the Tamils," Party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

The BJP's reaction came at a time when DMK threatened to snap ties with the ruling alliance if it failed to support the US-sponsored resolution at the UNHRC in Geneva against alleged human rights violations in the island nation during its civil war that ended in 2009. DMK chief M Karunanidhi had shot off letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Ganhdi, saying he feels "let down" by the "lukewarm" response of the government.

"If our demands are not met, it is doubtful whether our ties with the alliance (UPA) will continue...It won't continue is sure," Karunanidhi had said earlier.
