Gujarat: State Election Commission announces election schedule
State Election Commissioner Varesh Sinha says the SEC is adhering to High Court orders and has sought additional security forces to hold fair elections.

Ahmedabad: After being reprimanded by the Gujarat High Court over its failure to hold elections to local bodies within the stipulated timeframe, the State Election Commission has announced the election schedule to six municipal corporations, municipalities, zilla panchayat and gram panchayats of Gujarat.

Six municipal corporations, including Ahmedabad will go to polls on November 22 and counting for these will be held on November 26. Voting for municipalities, zilla panchayat and gram panchayats will be held on November 29 and counting will take place on December 2.

State Election Commissioner Varesh Sinha says the SEC is adhering to High Court orders and has sought additional security forces to hold fair elections.

Earlier this week, the Gujarat High Court, while setting aside the commission's notification postponing polls by three months, directed the election commission to hold local body polls forthwith.
