The government may send a Presidential reference in the case, which means that the SC will advise the government on the matter.

Chandigarh: There is no end to the row over the Haryana SGPC Act. The Haryana SGPC has called for a meeting on Thursday at Kaithal to work on a plan on how to take control of gurudwaras from the parent body.

The Akal Takht, the supreme body of Sikhs, had restrained Haryana SGPC from taking control of state gurudwaras. After the Akal Takht stepped in, Sikh leaders from Punjab and Haryana called off their congregation scheduled for last week.

The Akalis and the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in Haryana have been in a tussle over the control of gurudwaras in Haryana. According to sources, the government may send a Presidential reference, which means that the Supreme Court will advise the government on the matter.

The Shiromani Akali Dal sources say that former prime minister Manmohan Singh never allowed a separate SGPC and have called Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda opportunistic. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had threatened to quit at the rally on July 27 if the Haryana SGPC Act was not withdrawn.

However, Haryana had refused to back down. It went ahead and named a 41-member gurudwara panel "to manage, supervise and take over the assets of the gurudwaras in the state, including movable and immovable properties of every description," an official spokesman said.

The HSGPC, which had been constituted under the Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Management Act, 2014, shall continue to hold charge and manage the affairs of the gurudwaras in Haryana until a new committee is elected as provided for in the Act, he added.
