The Trinamool Congress councillor suffered bullet injury on his right leg while disembarking from a crowded train.

Hoogly: A Trinamool Congress councillor of Rishra, an industrial town in West Bengal's Hoogly district and about 24 km from Kolkata, was shot at by miscreants while disembarking at the busy railway station on Friday afternoon.

Bijoy Sagar Mishra, 42, received a bullet wound on his right leg while disembarking from a crowded Howrah-Burdwan local train at around 3.30 pm, police said. Mishra's bodyguards were not present at the time and the councillor rushed to the nearby police station for cover.

Following the incident Hooghly Superintendent of Police Tanmoy Ray Chowdhury rushed to the station and discussed the incident with the GRP. According to the police, the miscreants were yet to be traced.

Police said Mishra in his complaint said he had spoken out against the construction of an illegal club building in his ward area and suspected that the members of the club had employed goons to attack him.

He is among the five councillors who defected from the Congress party to the Trinamool Congress after the latter came to power in the state in 2011.
