Counting of votes for the high-profile by-elections began on Friday amidst tight security.

Kadapa: Counting of votes for the high-profile by-elections to the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula constituencies in Andhra Pradesh commenced in Kadapa on Friday morning amidst tight security.

Elaborate and foolproof arrangements were made for the counting in the Lok Sabha seats from where YSR Congress party chief president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his mother YS Vijayalakshmi, widow of former chief minister YS Rajashekhara Reddy is seeking re-election after quitting Congress.

Arrangements were made in eight halls for counting in seven assembly constituencies in Kadapa parliamentary segment with about 1,500 personnel participating in the process.

For every table one officer, two assistants, one micro observer and a videographer to picturise the counting process were deployed.

Two ECI observers, a returning officer and a SP were present and more than 200 men were engaged in three-tier security arrangements.

Among 13.29 lakh voters in Kadapa constituency, 10.28 lakh voters exercised their franchises in the May 8 by-polls.

Among the 42 candidates, who are in fray for Kadapa Lok Sabha, prominent are Congress candidate and Health Minister DL Ravindra Reddy, TDP nominee and Rajya Sabha member Dr MV Mysoora Reddy and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Congress nominee YS Vivekananda Reddy, M Ravindra Reddy, TDP nominee, and YS Vijayamma are the main contenders among the 25 candidates in the contest for Pulivendula.

TDP candidates Mysoora Reddy and Ravindranatha Reddy were also present at the counting.
