New Delhi: Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned on Monday following uproar by SP and BJP members on incidents of firing on lawyers by state revenue officials in Uttar Pradesh and the appointment of Lokayukta in Gujarat.

Soon after Speaker Meira Kumar made references in the Lok Sabha on the occasion of Teacher's Day, SP members led by Shailedra Kumar were on their feet demanding suspension of Question Hour to discuss the incident of firing on lawyers by state revenue officials in Lakhimpur Kheri district.

Members from BSP, which is in power in UP, strongly opposed their SP counterparts and some Congress members from the state also joined them.

BJP members, on the other hand, were protesting the appointment of Lokayukta in Gujarat in "violation of the Constitution". They were seen flashing copies of Hindi newspapers.

In the din, JD(U) members tried to raise certain issues related to Bihar, but they could not heard in the din.

Amid noisy scenes, the House was adjourned till noon.

In the Rajya Sabha, BJP members rushed into the well even before Chairman Hamid Ansari could settle in his seat.

"Please go back. This is Question Hour," he remarked as BJP members raised slogans against appointment of Lokyukta in Gujarat without consultation with the state government.

As Ansari took up the first listed question, BJP members raised slogans against "violation" of Constitution in Gujarat.

"Samvidhan ka ulanghan nahi chalega, nahi chalega (Violation of Constitution will not be tolerated)," they chanted.

With the din continuing, Ansari adjourned the House till noon.
