Apart from security during counting of votes, even victory processions have been thought about in plan.

Chandigarh: Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the union territory of Chandigarh and neighbouring Punjab to ensure the smooth conduct of counting process on Saturday, poll officials said on Friday.

"We have completed all the arrangements for the counting of votes of 13 Parliament constituencies of Punjab. Counting process will start on Saturday from 8 am at 48 counting centres of the state," Punjab's chief electoral officer (CEO) Kusumjit Sidhu said in Chandigarh.

As many as 70 companies of Punjab Armed Police and 10 companies of Border Security Force (BSF) have been deployed at all the counting centres to ensure foolproof security of counting centres, she said.

Sidhu said that proper communication arrangements had been made for the quick dissemination of results and security measures had been taken before hand for victory processions after completion of counting process.

Chandigarh's senior superintendent of police (SSP) S S Srivastava said security personnel would be deployed all across the city to maintain law and order. Special security arrangements have been made in and around the four counting centres here, he added.

"Special vigil will be kept on areas declared sensitive and no vehicle will be allowed to ply in the designated area around the counting centre," Srivastava said.
