In a setback to Arunachal Pradesh Governor, the Supreme Court on Monday directed the central government and JP Rajkhowa to return all records seized.
According to the Supreme Court directive, the government will make copies of all files and documents that were taken into custody from the office of former chief minister, MLAs, Parliament secretaries and furnish the same to them.
The apex court has instructed the Centre and the Governor to make copies of the hard drives of the computers that have been seized, and supply a copy to the former chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Nabam Tuki.
The Supreme Court had on Wednesday served a notice to the Centre, seeking a reply on the issue.
Expressing shock over the imposition of President's rule, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had said, "People are disappointed with the imposition of President's rule. We are taking this matter to court and we will seek justice from the Supreme Court.
"Congress party had the majority. Why the other party which has less in numbers trying to destabilise our government. The court has to decide now. The matter was sub-judice and therefore we will wait for the court's order," he said.
The Congress had termed the move as a murder of democracy. "It is really unfortunate that President's rule was imposed in Arunachal, which is ruled by the Congress. This is unconstitutional."
