Shashi Tharoor's Spin on 'The Accidental Prime Minister' Takes a Dig at PM Modi's 'Acche Din' Promise
The PM has come under attack, both from the opposition and allies, for not living up to his promise of good days.

New Delhi: With the BJP lauding the trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister, which features Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter to give the movie title a spin and took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's promised "acchhe din (good days)".

"There's no doubt in my mind that the Accidental Prime Minister was a lot better for our country than the "Acchedin"tal Prime Minister," tweeted Tharoor.

In the run-up to 2014 general elections, BJP's PM-designate Narendra Modi had promised to usher in "acche din" for the electorate.

The PM has come under attack, both from the opposition and allies, for not living up to his promise of good days.

In August, in view of soaring petrol and diesel prices, the Shiv Sena, BJP's ally in Centre and Maharashtra, asked the BJP to ensure citizens have a stable life even if it cannot bring “acche din” for them.

Sharpening its attack, the Sena said a few months are left before PM Modi’s tenure ends, and asked why the prime minister could not provide stability to the people by reducing fuel prices.

“Forget acche din, at least provide stability to the people,” said the Sena.

However, the petrol and diesel prices have come down since the attack.

Take, for example, the promise of “Rs 15 lakh coming into the bank accounts of the poor”. The latter was to be fulfilled in a matter of 100 days of the BJP coming to power. The PM has not spoken on the issue post the 2014 campaign but the opposition has always been quoting it back to the PM.

Also the promised of bringing back the black money stashed away abroad or in safe tax havens remains unfulfilled. To government's credit, an SIT was formed on the black money issue, but no money has come back so far.

The BJP, which rode to power riding on the Anna Hazare movement on Lokpal issue, has yet not appointed the ombudsman.

At a rally in Agra in 2013, Modi had promised to create two crore jobs annually. Recently, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said the BJP government’s promise to generate two crore jobs annually had turned out to be a “gimmick”.
