Sonia Gandhi cemented the Congress party together, says senior leader Sandeep Dikshit
Sandeep Dikshit's comments reflect the lack of confidence in Rahul Gandhi's ability to rejuvenate Congress.

Five months after their Lok Sabha debacle the Congress is finally in an introspective mode but still shielding the Gandhis from any blame. CNN-IBN's Pallavi Ghosh talked to Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit.

CNN-IBN: Do you agree with P Chidambaram when he says the Gandhis should have spoken more?

Sandeep Dikshit: Oh yes, to a certain extent, yes, I would, and I would say that when they speak it is effective and that is one of the reasons why I am saying that they must come out.

CNN-IBN: What about Sonia Gandhi & Manmohan Singh?

Sandeep Dikshit: Soniaji, let me put it in a different perspective, I think she is perhaps one of the most able Congress President's of all times, when she came in 1997-98 please understand the situation of the Congress, everybody was thinking the party was over. She got our units together in 2004.

CNN-IBN: You are 44 now, you think Sonia needs to replay that role once again?

Sandeep Dikshit: To a large extent yes, I personally feel that only she is capable of doing that.

CNN-IBN: Why not Rahul Gandhi?

Sandeep Dikshit: No, No, this is not a comment on him. She is the most capable right now.

This was on a day when Rahul Gandhi held the first meeting post-poll results and said that Congress must bounce back. Sandeep Dikshit's comments reflect the lack of confidence in Rahul Gandhi's ability to rejuvenate Congress.

What's your reaction?
