New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has upped the ante against the Congress over the alleged land deals of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra. The BJP on Monday demanded that Sonia and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi break their silence on the allegations.
"It's been 24 hours and we have not heard the Congress President or Vice President's comment on it. The Congress President and Vice President have been silent on all corruption cases," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Seetharaman said.
"The Supreme Court has not admitted the PIL on Robert Vadra, but the SC has neither given Robert Vadra a clean chit. The BJP will continue to persist on the Vadra land deal case," she added.
The Congress, meanwhile, continues to defend party Vadra after the BJP released a CD questioning his land deals in Rajasthan and Haryana. The Congress has said that no charge against Vadra has been proven with all PILs filed against him dismissed.
The party also hit back at the BJP saying it is scared of Sonia's daughter Priyanka Gandhi's campaigning. "It is obvious that Priyanka's clear statements in Amethi and Rae Bareli have gone home creating frustration and fear within the BJP and that is why this is happening," said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
"It is distressing and unfortunate that the BJP with all its effort has put out old wine in old bottle. I was expecting at least an attempted repackaging like Mr Narendra Modi only repackages himself. This booklet and video is a repetition of old facts," Singhvi added.
The Congress has also said that it is mulling moving the Election Commission against the BJP campaign targeting Vadra. "Two PILs have been dismissed by the high court and one by the Supreme Court, which recorded in a paragraph that merely because someone is related, he is not a sinner. These are same identical allegations. They have not found a single thing yet," Singhvi said.
This came after the BJP on Sunday released a video targeting Robert Vadra where it questioned his land deals in Rajasthan and Haryana. The saffron party alleged that Vadra's land deals were in clear violation of land regulations which amounts to corruption.
It alleged that the 'Vadra model' has become successful due to the patronage provided by the Gandhi family to him. BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and the then Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot to save their posts were eager to help Vadra. There was a gross violation of laws relating to land and environment. The influence of the family helped make Vadra big earnings in the deals."
The six-page booklet released by BJP earlier in the day titled 'Damad Shree' refers to the various deals of Vadra in Rajasthan and Haryana.
