Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stepped up her volley of attacks against the BJP-led government at the Centre on Monday by calling it anti-people.
Addressing a rally in Kolkata, the Trinamool Congress chief accused the government of using Central Bureau of Investigation against her party which is under fire over the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
A day after party MP Derek O'Brien questioned BJP the source of its party funds, Mamata criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign trips. "Where is the Centre getting so much money for foreign trips? How are they financing the pompous shows at America," she asked.
She also accused the BJP for the rise in incidents of communal violence across the country. "Ever since this government came to power, riots are happening everywhere- UP, Maharashtra and even Delhi. Centre does not care for people. We will take people from Bengal to Delhi to protest against Centre's anti-people policies," said the firebrand leader.
The BJP and TMC have embroiled in a war of words ever since the arrest of Srinjoy Bose in the Saradha scam. Union Minister Arun Jaitley had on Sunday taken a dig at Mamata saying that he was "deeply disappointing" for defending the accused party leaders. To this, party spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien said that the party did not need a lecture from him.
