Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM in Kerala on Sunday said toppling the Congress-led UDF Government by wooing its partners was not on the party's agenda but it was of the view that the Oommen Chandy Ministry would "naturally collapse" as it had been getting isolated from the people.
"We have made it clear right from the day the results of the assembly polls were declared last year that the party or the LDF would not indulge in any parliamentary intrigues or back any clique or coterie to pull down the government. There is no change in that stand," CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said.
However, he said that the government, surviving on a slender majority in the assembly, would "naturally collapse" as it had been getting isolated from the people day-by-day.
The UDF government enjoys a thin majority of 70 in the 140-member Assembly with one seat lying vacant due to the death of Kerala Congress (J) leader T M Jacob last year.
"There will be a natural collapse of this government. The party is not for any attempt to woo the partners of UDF and topple it and install an LDF ministry in its place," Vijayan said at a press meet called to brief on the 20th state conference of the party beginning here on February 7.
The Government was getting isolated from the people day by day due to its "anti-people policies". The CPM would organise agitations against its policies and a situation would come wherein the government would find it difficult to continue in office, Vijayan said.
Stating that the CPM had gained strength after the last party congress held three years back, he said the factional trends in the state unit had been resolved.
CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat will inaugurate the opening session of the state conference on February 7. Party politburo members S Ramachandran Pillai, Sitharam Yechury, K Varadarajan and Brinda Karat will attend the delegates session along with Vijayan.
A rally of party workers will be organised on the closing day of the meet on February 10.
