New Delhi: Congress will release its election manifesto from seven places simultaneously on Saturday to spread its message across Uttar Pradesh.

PTI quoted highly placed party sources saying that PCC chief Salman Khurshid, along with CLP leader Pramod Tiwari, would release the manifesto in Lucknow in the presence of AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot.

AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh will release the manifesto in Jhansi, Union Ministers Saifuddin Soz, Kapil Sibal in Varanasi and Agra respectively.

Union Ministers Subodh Kant Sahay, Akhilesh Das and Renuka Chowdhary would unveil the document in Allahabad, Ghaziabad and Gorakhpur respectively.

The document is being released at a time when the Supreme Court order on the OBC quota issue has stirred up a controversy.

The manifesto is expected to have a programme for the welfare of weaker sections especially minorities at a time when the party is seeking to retrieve its lost base.

Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said Samajwadi Party leaders had already "smelt defeat" and began deserting Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"Those who have been left behind are forlorn, dejected and hoping for a miracle," he said.

Congress is a fringe player in UP politics and is making a desperate bid to become a key player in the state.
