New Delhi: Mired in controversy involving former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Wednesday sought an appointment with Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah, said sources.

The sources said Shah told the Chief Minister not to speak to the media.

With Congress out on streets demanding Vasundhara resignation as documents surfaced alleging that she helped Modi to get get permit to stay in the United Kingdom. The documents said Vasundhara allegedly filed application backing Modi in 2011 when she was the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly.

The documents released by Modi's team revealing Vasundhara's role said that the testimony is conditional and it will not be known to Indian authorities.

It was also revealed that Vasundhara government signed an Memorandum of Understanding with the Portugal hospital where Modi's wife was treated. The government signed an MoU with Lisbon-based Champalimaud Foundation on October 2, 2014, two months after Modi's wife underwent treatment for cancer.

The BJP is, however, not bucking under pressure and is strongly backing the Chief Minister. BJP sources said that Vasundhara has already clarified that Lalit Modi is a family friend but is unaware of the documents.

BJP said the documents claiming Vasundhara supported Modi's immigration plea have not been authenticated.

Sources said Vasundhara clarified to Bharatiya Janata Party leaders that she never filed a statement in favour of Lalit Modi.
