Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek has left the Trinamool Congress red-faced over a very violent threat. Stirring a controversy, Abhishek warned that those who dared to challenge the TMC administration will have their eyes gouged out and their hands chopped off.
While addressing a party event, president of TMC's youth wing Abhishek said, "In the heart of Delhi, in Parliament and through various protests, Mamata Banerjee and the TMC have proved that if the interests of the people of Bengal are hurt, we will not leave the matter. As long as Mamata is there, if anyone dares to glare at us, we will gouge their eyes out and throw them on the road, if they raise their hands, we'll cut their arms off."
The comments of Abhishek has attracted severe criticism from the other political parties.
Condemning Abhishek's statement, the Congress demanded action against him. "Abhishek Banerjee is an MP and for an MP to give such comments that he will cut the arms or take out eyes is very poor. He should not be let go scot free because he is Mamata's nephew, action should be taken against him," said PL Punia.
Backing the Congress's demand, the Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded case against the MP. "TMC can only win elections by unleashing terror. We demand a case be filed against Abhishek Banerjee for his comments," said GVL Narasimha Rao.
In January this year, Abhishek was slapped by a youth at a rally at Chandipur in East Midnapore district, causing an outrage in the party.
The youth, wearing a cap, mounted the stage from which Banerjee was addressing the gathering and while clicking photos on his cell phone suddenly lunged towards Banerjee and slapped him, taking him off-guard.
