After Xiaomi, Oppo Teases Its Wireless Air Charging Tech That Will Power Smartphone Over-the-Air
Oppo, unlike, Xiaomi has not provided any details over the next-gen wireless air charging tech, unveiled at MWC 2021. Xiaomi had earlier stated that its remote charging technology is capable of delivering only 5W of power to a single device over a distance of a couple of metres.

Oppo has teased its new wireless charging technology at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2021. The Wireless Air Charging solution powers the battery wirelessly even when the device is in the air, without any cables. Oppo’s new Wireless Air Charging tech was showcased in a video, and the company is likely to improve the solution before commercially rolling it out. Oppo’s domestic rival Xiaomi had also teased a similar wireless-air charging tech back in January. Xiaomi called it the Mi Air Charge technology.

The new Oppo Wireless Air Charging tech was showcased as a part of its new flash charging project: The Flash Initiative. In the video we can see, the OPPO X 2021 rollable OLED screen smartphone on a wooden charging pad. The phone starts charging as soon as the device touches the surfaces. However, the battery continues to power up even when the device is lifted a few inches above the surface. It is likely the radius of the wireless charging solution is limited to a small distance.

Oppo, unlike, Xiaomi has not provided any details over the next-gen wireless air charging tech, unveiled at MWC 2021. Xiaomi had earlier stated that its remote charging technology is capable of delivering only 5W of power to a single device over a distance of a couple of metres. The Xiaomi Mi Air Charge has five phase interface antennas to determine the position of your mobile device.

Notably, Oppo earlier today announced a partnership with Anker, FAW-Volkswagen, and NXP Semiconductors to expand its charging VOOC flash charging technology to charging accessories, automobiles, public spaces, respectively. The company in a statement stated that each partner company would work with proprietary technical designs developed by Oppo under the Flash Initiative. “Technology certification laboratory CTTL (China Telecommunication Technology Laboratory) will test and certify any partner products made with VOOC flash charging technology," the company had added.
