New Delhi: Taking lessons from its glitchy iOS 8 rollout last year, Apple is planning to launch its first-ever public beta program for its updated iOS 8.3.
The tech giant intends to release the iOS 8.3, codenamed Stowe, as a public beta via Apple's existing AppleSeed program in mid-March, similar to the launch of OS X Yosemite last year. In the same week Apple will launch the third iOS 8.3 beta for developers as well, while the second iOS 8.3 beta for developers will be rolled out next week.
In a report on 9to5Mac, after the iOS 8 rollout, Apple is planning to launch iOS 9, codenamed Monarch, at its June Worldwide Developer Conference, with a public beta release in summer and a final release later this year.
Sources have indicated that in order to keep the exclusivity intact, iOS 8.3 beta program will be limited to 100,000 people. The updated software includes support for Wireless CarPlay, an upgraded Emoji keyboard, an enhanced voice for Siri, and simpler login for Google services.
The iOS 8.4, codenamed Copper, will include Apple's new streaming music service while the iOS 9 will include fixes and performance enhancements.
The aim of having beta releases is to achieve glitch-free wider public rollout and the beta program of iOS will also reduce the demand for unauthorized sales of beta downloads from developer accounts, which enabled some consumers to test-drive future iOS features.
