With the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the Indian cricket team’s new Head coach taking the cricketing fraternity by storm, there remains one question regarding who will be the support staff to assist the former India opener during his stint.

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement which confirmed that the likes of Paras Mhambrey (Bowling Coach, T Dilip (Fielding Coach) and Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach) are set to end their tenure in their respective roles and it is yet to be seen who will be appointed as their replacements.

According to RevSportz, it is suggested that Abhishek Nayar and Vinay Kumar are two names that have been suggested by Gambhir to the Indian Cricket Board as the batting and bowling coaches respectively.

Nayar was with Gambhir in the Kolkata Knight Riders set-up where the first-class veteran was the assistant coach of the franchise and led them to the Indian Premier League title in 2024 under their management and the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.

Vinay Kumar on the other hand has represented at the international level and has also led his domestic side, Karnataka to two domestic trebles in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Dainik Jagran has also reported that T Dilip will keep his role as the fielding coach while Nayar’s appointment is a likely affair but Vinay Kumar’s appointment is uncertain.

However, the BCCI is yet to make an official announcement regarding the appointment of the support staff and the decision will likely be taken soon.

Gambhir will begin his role as the Indian head coach when the Men in Blue travel to Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI and T20I series which is slated to begin on July 27, 2024.

The former Indian opener has been part of India’s historic title-winning campaigns in 2008 and 2011 and has had a knack for winning big trophies even in the Indian Premier League.

The BCCI and the Indian cricket fans will hope that he brings in his experience to help India solidify their position at the very top by dominating across every format.

Currently, a younger contingent of the Indian team led by Shubman Gill is playing a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe with all the games in Harare. India despite losing the first game managed to bounce back with a win and will hope to go on and win the remaining games.
