In an exclusive interview, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasised on the role that technology can play in development and governance.
"Technology drives progress," said Nadella. "When I think about tech, it plays a role in empowering people to achieve more."
"World class cloud technology can bring the next level of efficiency," said Nadella highlighting the importance of cloud computing in the role that technology can play in bringing about the change. Cloud computing is one of Microsoft's strengths.
The Hyderabad-born Nadella gave an example of how previously unconnected schools in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district are now are connected and how this is bringing about a change. Nadella said the cloud could democratise access.
Talking about concerns about privacy and security, Nadella said that Microsoft has been in India for over 20 years and the company understands digital security and they are "looking forward to working with the authorities in India."
Asked about India's potential and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India vision, Nadella said, "I think India entrepreneurs are world class, I think Indian human capital is world call. I think Narendra Modi's vision is absolutely right, he is pushing right agenda."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a tour of Silicon Valley, the hub of the world's tech giants. Modi will meet Satya Nadella and other CEOs of big technology companies during his two-day visit.
