Google has been busy working on Gemini over the past few weeks and after its official reveal of the new AI chatbots, Gemini Pro version is now rolling out to developers and enterprises.
The decision to offer access to the Pro variant to the developers will help the company build new AI tools that can be integrated into the wider range of cloud products.
To access Gemini Pro, developers need the free-to-use Google AI studio web tool, while businesses get its access through Google’s AI platform called Vertex AI. For those using the Google AI Studio, can sign in with their Google account and make the best use of the free quota that Google is offering.
The SDKs for Gemini Pro are being made available across different coding languages that can expand the base for new apps to utilise Gemini Pro’s capabilities.
Google has highlighted the benefits of adopting Gemini Pro. Gemini Pro accepts text as input and generates text as output. It claims the new Pro AI model outperforms other similarly-sized models on research benchmarks. Gemini Pro comes with a 32K context window for text, and future versions will have a larger context window. And the company also pointed out that while the AI model is free to use for now, with certain limits, it will eventually get a price that it assures will be competitive.
The company allows 60 requests per minute, which it claims is 20x more than other free offerings in the market. Having said that, Google does mention that using the free quota means your API and Google AI Studio input as well as output will be accessible to other reviewers.
In addition to the Gemini Pro, Google has released the version 1.0 with Gemini Nano which is available on the Pixel 8 Pro model, and the Gemini Ultra that will be coming out in 2024.
