Google perhaps knows that it may not be possible to notify your close ones about your safety in a state of emergency. The company has introduced a personal safety app named Trusted Contacts, which lets you share your location with your loved ones during case of emergencies. This app, available on Android, also works when your phone is offline.

How Trusted Contacts works: You have to mark specific people in your address book as 'trusted contacts' who you think should know the status of your's phone's activity.

When they (read: your relatives or friends) open the app they would be able to see whether you are active, which means your phone is active and moving. The app also lets your list of 'Trusted Contacts' to know when your phone runs out of battery or it has a low battery or has no connectivity at all.

Trusted Contacts also prompts to detect your location if they feel that you are in danger. Also, your location is shared automatically and your loved ones can determine the best way to help you out.

What's your reaction?
