Do you remember the call screen feature that Google introduced with the Pixel 6 series? For those who don’t know, this feature automatically acts as a call screener to handle telemarketers, scammers, and other annoying callers. This can come in quite handy for working professionals and the everyday user. The Google Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 series owners in the US and a few other countries have been enjoying this feature for a while now. It’s about time Indian users got to experience it as well.
The information provided here comes from a Reddit user who goes by the name r/yuval17G. According to their post, they were able to enable call screening functionality in both Hindi and English (India) on a OnePlus 7 running the AOSP 14 custom ROM. They achieved this by using the Gapps Magisk module available on GitHub to enable call screening flags. He notes that other countries will also receive call screening support, not just India.
You might be wondering how this indicates that call screening will eventually come to Pixel phones. The existence of these calling and language packs suggests that Google might be considering bringing this feature to more markets, especially India. Currently, this feature is reserved for Pixel 6 and later users in Australia, the US, Spain, the UK, Italy, Japan, Ireland, and Germany.
That said, it’s unclear when Indian users will get this feature, but reports say Pixel devices will get a feature drop in March, and that might be when Google devices get it too. But nothing is official yet, and Google hasn’t said anything, so take it with a grain of salt.
