The frenzy that Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones – Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have caused has been apparently hit by a shortage in supply of the devices in South Korea.
According to a report, the score of Samsung Galaxy S8 registered to mobile carriers in South Korea slumped in the wake of record-breaking pre-orders.
The report adds that Samsung said around 2,60,000 units of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones were registered with South Korea’s three mobile carriers; the number of registrations slumped to 60,000 units only yesterday.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones were launched in India at an event in New Delhi yesterday (April 19). The smartphones will start retailing in the country from May 5, while pre-bookings had begun yesterday itself.
The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be available from select offline retailers and will be available online via the Samsung India E-Store and e-commerce site Flipkart. Samsung is also offering a free wireless charger along with the smartphones on pre-booking.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED curved display. The display comes with a 1440x2960 pixel resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. On the other hand, the Galaxy S8+ features a 6.2-inch screen sharing similar specifications.
The Galaxy smartphones sport 12-megapixel rear cameras with 'Dual Pixel' technology. The camera features include optical image stabilisation and f/1.7 aperture.
In the front, the smartphones don 8-megapixel cameras with autofocus. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will come with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, and GPS connectivity options.
Both the Galaxy smartphones support Samsung Pay, MST and NFC connectivity. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are powered by 3,000 mAh and 3500 mAh battery respectively, along with wireless charging and fast-charging support.
