New Delhi: Cricket legend Ricky Ponting readily admits to not being a tech freak. "I am very basic and use only my iPhone and iPad," says one of the most successful captains in the history of international cricket.
The former Australian captain's disinterest in the details of the world of tech comes to the fore when asked about the models of this iPhone and iPad. While Ponting was prompt in pointing out that his phone was an iPhone 5s, but his iPad model turned out to be a doosra. "I don't know, I bought that (iPad) years back," says Ponting with an embarrassed laughter.
His iPhone and the iPad are the only two Apple devices that Ponting owns and he has no plans to buy any more including the upcoming Apple Watch.
Talking about fitness trackers and wearables, Ponting says that he does not use any fitness device to keep a track of his health because he, "used to be fit, but not anymore."
Apart from his phone, the good ol' TV is one gadget that Ponting cannot live without.
Ponting, who is also called Punter, is neither hooked to social networks nor has too many apps on his phone. "I just have got some sporting apps to stay in touch with sports. I am bit of a golf fan, so I have a PGA Tour Mobile golf app, a TAB racing app, and a betting application to do my betting on the phone."
While he never seemed content with the victories that his team won, always striving for more, the man who took Australian cricket to greater heights is a different person when it comes to gadgets. "I am very happy with all (gadgets) that I have," he says, reiterating, "you can say that I am not a tech freak at all." Nevertheless, he won't mind anyone buying him a video camera to perfectly videotape his golf swings.
Like most of the celebrities who have so far been featured in our Star Tech series, Ponting's first phone was also a Nokia. "It was a little Nokia and I had bought that sometime between and early and mid '90s."
Star Tech is our new series in which we feature the tech toys our stars like to play with.
