In a surprise restructuring of Google, co-founder Larry Page announced Alphabet - the new venture that now owns Google and overlooks other entities which include some of the search giant’s ‘moonshot’ projects.

The umbrella venture Alphabet will house varied businesses that are far afield the main Internet products.

Here are the letters you will find in Google's new Alphabet soup:

Alphabet: The new holding company Alphabet has been created to separate the core web advertising business from newer ventures such as driverless cars. This move appears to be an attempt by the technology giant to focus better on its more creative and ambitious projects.

Capital: A growth equity fund backed now by Alphabet, Google Capital invests in people and companies who are passionate about technology and share similar ideas as Google. Some of the companies in which Google has invested include SurveyMonkey, Glassdoor, Lending Club, and Renaissance Learning.

Calico: Founder Larry Page particularly noted this venture, a life extension project, as now a part of Alphabet. Google has long worked towards the field of healthcare. With Calico, Alphabet will continue to research upon and develop new technology that is focused on longevity and enable people to lead healthier lives.

Fiber: The broadband arm aimed at offering high-speed Internet, Google Fiber will now function under Alphabet. It starts with Internet connection that is up to 1,000 megabites per second. Currently offered in select cities in the US, the company aims to expand the service to more cities.

Google: Google Inc will continue to run with the same name, albeit under a new CEO, Sundar Pichai, and include Search, Ads, YouTube, Android, Chrome, and the related Internet infrastructure.

Life Sciences: Another segment of Google's health-focused projects, it is a division of Google X and focused on transforming the detection, prevention, management and basic understanding of diseases. One of its current projects is the the glucose-sensing contact lens.

Nest Labs: Acquired by Google in 2014, Nest Labs, will now run as a separate entity under Alphabet. It produces Internet-connected and automated home products like Wi-Fi enabled thermostats, smoke detectors, and other such security systems.

Sidewalk: One of the newest urban technology projects, Sidewalk aims to help improve life in cities around the world with the use of new technology projects, platforms, and infrastructure.

Ventures: Company’s investing arm, Google Ventures will now be an entity under Alphabet. It has earlier invested in companies like Nest, Foundation Medicine, Cloudera, and Uber. The aim is to provide support in terms of design, engineering, recruiting, marketing, and more.

X Labs: The X Labs is where some of the search giant’s most ambitious projects are underway. From the hi-tech wearable gadget Google Glass to the self-driving cars, Google X will continue exploring the ‘moonshot’ projects under Alphabet. Some of the projects include Wing: Google’s drone delivery effort; Project Loon: Providing Internet connectivity to rural areas through balloons; Smart contact lenses; Tremor-cancelling spoon, and much more.
