Rumours have already suggested Xiaomi's plans to foray into the notebook PC segment, and now a new report has added more weight to it. According to a Taipei Times report, the half-a-decade-old company may launch its first laptop in the first half of the next year.
The report says to have got a confirmation on the same from Inventec, one of Xiaomi's manufacturing partners. "I am upbeat about the business outlook for Xiaomi’s notebook computers, as the firm has more than 200 million registered smartphone users," the report quotes Richard Lee, chariman, Inventec, as saying.
Quite like its other devices, Xiaomi, which has managed to earn a good name for itself in such a short span, is expected to launch its first notebook at a competitive price, notes Lee.
It is, however, not known at this time if it would run Windows 10.
A Bloomberg report in the past had also suggested Xiaomi's tie-up plans with Samsung Electronics for memory chips to be used in the notebooks.
