YouTube intends to use some of the content it is funding as a bonus for its premium subscription service, which will also include features like ad-free videos.

New Delhi: The world of free videos is unlikely to remain the same. At least, that is what Google’s YouTube is apparently aiming at with its new programs.

The video platform is reportedly geared up to launch a new programming that would require users to pay up to watch content. The new slate of programming will only be available to people who join its upcoming subscription services.

A report on Re/code notes that the programming is the product of an initiative the site announced last year when it said it would fund new content from some of its top creators.

According to industry sources, YouTube intends to use some of the content it is funding as a bonus for its premium subscription service, which will also include features like ad-free videos.

YouTube will continue to operate the free, ad-supported version of the site and the content on the free site will also be offered on the paid version.

The new paid programming is speculated to be available in 2016.
