'Are You An Idiot?' Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary Slams Employees For Spending On Coffee, Sandwiches
In a financial advice clip, Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary didn’t hold back in criticising employees who regularly spend on daily coffee and work lunches.

While city life can seem quite exciting and adventurous, it is not easy for everyone, especially those who need to survive and save. Amid the hustle and rumble of busy lives, it is important to understand the need to manage and balance fun activities. One of the major tricks for survival is to cut on the “convenience” cost, as explained by Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary. In a video shared on his Instagram handle, the businessman did not refrain from calling out employees, who splurge on their daily cups of coffee and work lunches.

Describing it as “stupid” stuff, Kevin O’Leary mentioned how people in the US usually spend around $20 (approx Rs 1,700) on buying food and coffee, which amounts to a lot of money in a year. He also explained that they can instead carry their food from home and skip the fancy latte to save money, especially when working in metropolitan cities.

“Stop buying coffee for $5.50 (approx Rs 462). You got to work and spend $15 (approx Rs 1,260) on a sandwich—what are you, an idiot? It costs 99 cents to make a sandwich at home and bring it with you. You start to add that up every day; it’s a ton of money. Most people, particularly working in metropolitan cities, are just starting on their job, making their first $60,000 (Rs 50,37,600), piss away about $15,000 (Rs 12,59,400) a year on stupid stuff, and that’s what they should stop doing,” he said in the video.

His opinion quickly went viral, sparking a wave of mixed reactions. While some agreed with O’Leary’s suggestions, others had differing views.

A user wrote, “Very true. I stopped buying coffee at coffee shops long time ago,” while another added, “100% agree. I bring my lunch everyday not only do you save money it’s one less descion on what to eat, and you eat healthier.”

One wrote, “I have to chuckle at people who have made a fortune off consumers then tell the consumers not to spend money on the things that made them wealthy.”

“99? lol someone is out of touch with reality lol,” a comment read, while one added. A person argued, “Sorry, it’s not the coffee or sandwiches that are killing my budget it’s the 10% jump in my rent each year and the bigger things”

Notably, the video comes days after another businessman shared his views about not allowing employees to take coffee breaks. Mineral Resources MD Chris Ellison said, “When I get them first thing in the morning, I want to hold them captive all day long. I don’t want them leaving the building. I don’t want them walking down the road for a cup of coffee. We kind of figured out a few years ago how much that costs.”

What's your reaction?
