If the phrase ‘ate and left no crumbs’ had a face, food enthusiast’s most loved delicacy, Biryani would be its most celebrated face. In recent years, biryani has turned into an absolute ‘king’ of the food ‘kingdom’ and it seems like Indian food enthusiasts’ cannot get enough of it. Now, a report by one of the most popular food delivery platforms, Swiggy has made it official. As the holy month of Ramadan ended, Swiggy has unveiled its Ramadan order analysis, giving us an insight into some of the most popular Iftar foods ordered by its customers.

This analysis proves the nation’s continued love affair with biryani, and also sheds light on unique food trends observed on Swiggy during the holy month from March 12 to April 8, 2024. According to a report by Swiggy, Biryani tore all the charts and recorded around 6 million plates sold via the platform during the month of Ramadan in India. This marks a 15 percent rise during the holy month compared to regular months.

Among the cities that placed orders for biryani, Hyderabad stood at the top for ordering the highest number of biryani plates, with a staggering figure of over a million plates. Besides biryani, the city also ordered a whopping order of 5.3 lakh plates of haleem during Ramadan.

In addition to that, Swiggy also saw a 34 percent increase in orders between 5:30 and 7 pm (the approximate time for Iftar) in comparison to the regular hours during which the maximum orders were placed.

Apart from the number of biryani plates ordered during Ramadan 2024, the food delivery partner also claimed that Chicken Biryani, Samosa, Mutton Haleem, Falooda, and kheer were among the most ordered food items around this time nationwide.

Hold on to your horses; the list doesn’t end here. The food delivery platform also saw a significant increase in orders for traditional delicacies across the country during the holy month. While Haleem orders rose by 1454.88 percent, the orders for Phirni and Malpua rose by 80.97 percent and 70.97 percent, respectively. Falooda went up by 57.93 percent, while Dates’ saw an increase of 48.40 percent.

Reports also suggest that there was a notable surge in Iftar sweet dish orders, with sweet tooth mainly located in Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Lucknow, and Meerut. These states placed the highest number of sweet dish orders, including Malpua and Phirni.
