Delta Flight Forced To Return After Maggots Fall On Passengers From Overhead Cabin
After landing, passengers were taken off the plane and the cabin was thoroughly cleaned.

An hour after takeoff, a Delta flight had to make an emergency landing due to maggots that dropped from the overhead cabin onto economy passengers. A suitcase containing rotten fish in the overhead bin broke open, releasing maggots that fell on the unwary passengers on Delta Flight DL133 from Amsterdam to Detroit on February 13. Subsequently, the airline was forced to return to Schiphol.

After landing, passengers were taken off the plane, the cabin was thoroughly cleaned, and the suitcase was placed in a bag to be burned.

According to DailyMail, a passenger by the name of Kelce claimed that after the other travellers had disembarked, Delta employees had located the owner of the rotting suitcase and had them detained on board. Kelce added that passengers who were delayed overnight were compensated with 8,000 air miles, hotel room compensation, and a $30 (roughly Rs 2,400) meal ticket.

It’s unclear if the owner of the suitcase received a fine or if there was any other action taken against them, reports added.

Meanwhile, a Reddit user, who was allegedly sitting a row ahead of where the incident occurred, later stated that the fish had been packed in a newspaper. “My family and I were in the row directly in front of the maggots. The lady right behind us told the flight attendants the maggots were falling on her head. Ugh. I turned around and they were wiggling around on the seat,” The Daily Mail quoted the Reddit user as saying.

According to Delta Air policy, bringing food as a carry-on is not dangerous and is permitted onboard if properly packaged. However, this is not the first repellent incident to occur on a Delta flight this year.

In January, plane passengers were horrified when a fellow traveller pooped in his pants and left the faeces all over the seat. One of the disgusted travellers took to Reddit to express his displeasure with the situation, which quickly became viral.

The Reddit user explained that on Christmas Eve (December 24), they were on an early morning Delta flight from Birmingham, Alabama, to Atlanta, Georgia, with their eight-year-old daughter, and about 20 minutes after takeoff, they noticed something ‘terrible.’
