An enjoyable dining experience at a hotpot restaurant in China took a horrifying turn for a customer when a live shrimp turned the tables on her and fought back to survive. The dramatic and unexpected encounter left the woman in tears as the live crustacean during his attempt to escape the boiling broth clamped onto her hand. A video of the same surfaced on several social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok, garnering millions of views.
The viral clip, which has taken the internet by storm, shows the diner attempting to dunk the live crustacean into her hotpot of boiling broth and other seafood. However, the vicious shrimp suddenly sprang to life and hopped out of her hand. Despite her efforts to recapture the shrimp with chopsticks, the shrimp continued to fight back in a desperate bid for survival.
As she continuously attempted to dunk the shrimp into the pot, the shrimp retaliated and clamped onto her hand with its sharp forearm, causing her to cry out in pain. Soon, a restaurant employee intervened, prying the aggressive shrimp off her hand.
The post was captioned, “Live seafood boil gone wrong in China. Lady tried to eat some type of shrimp, but it decided to try to eat her instead.”
Soon after the video was shared, internet users were quick to react to the post. A majority of users found the woman’s shrimp skewering highly amusing, and they poked all kinds of jokes, while others were impressed by the shrimp’s determination to survive and defend itself.
“Good for that shrimp! He wasn’t going out without a fight,” read a comment.
Another user remarked, “What a surprise that the poor, terrified creature didn’t want to be cooked alive!”
“That’s a mantis shrimp. They are aggressive and have praying mantis like piercing arms to stab prey or apparently people who try to throw them in boiling soup,” shared an individual.
Another added, “That delicious shrimp is just trying to survive and it’s defending itself.”
“Now u will never eat shrimp ever,” said a user.
An account wrote, “He said you will remember me forever first though.”
The post added that the mantis shrimp packs a mean punch, smashing its victims’ shells with the force of a .22 calibre bullet. It has arms that are naturally spring-loaded, allowing it to swing its fist like clubs to speeds up to 23 m/s.
