The Supreme Court of India recently played host to a cheeky monkey heist when two monkeys entered the court’s halls and stole a bag. Sanjay Hegde, a senior advocate at the Supreme Court, shared a video of the mischievous burglars jumping into a packed hallway. One monkey was seen hopping onto a small shelf adjacent to a courtroom entrance, where it swiped a tote bag before hastily returning to a parapet.
As the monkey went through the bag, a bunch of amused lawyers watched the commotion unfold. To the delight of others around him, the cunning primate took out a lunch box and threw the bag off the edge of the parapet. The lawyers’ laughter grew louder as they recorded their furry guests’ antics on camera. The video also showed the monkey struggling to open the lunchbox.

Days after the Delhi High Court ordered the city’s administration to address the “monkey menace” in the nation’s capital, this video has gone viral.
In August, monkeys attacked a lawyer as she entered the Supreme Court campus. The incident occurred when Advocate S Selvakumari was entering through Gate No G, which is next to the Supreme Court Museum. She was abruptly attacked by a group of monkeys, leaving her with a bite wound in her right thigh. Selvakumari ran to the Supreme Court’s first aid facility, but it was under renovation, according to a Bar and Bench report.
