Every other day, food bloggers and many enterprising cooks share their innovative recipes online. While some of these experimentations work well, many end up failing. Sometimes it appears that many chefs deliberately mix bizarre ingredients to inspire outrage and social media engagement. In recent years, many food bloggers have created a buzz by giving an unusual twist to traditional recipes such as making chicken tikka ice cream. Even ready-to-eat dishes like Maggi noodles have seen countless variations in recent years. Here are some of the most bizarre food combinations we have seen recently:
1- Paper Bag Fried Chicken
Food vlogger Trevor James recently shared a video that showed how Malaysia’s famous paper-bag fried chicken is made. The cook first marinates the chicken and then puts it in a sealed paper bag. These paper bags stuffed with seasoned chicken are deep-fried and set aside. Once they cool down enough, they are served to people. While many people were fascinated with the technique, others thought it was a gimmick. An Instagram user described this recipe as “the cheaper version of pandan leaf-wrapped fried chicken.”
2- Momos Steamed In Pepsi
All over the world, there are many variations of momos or dumplings. One of the things common in momos preparations is that they are steamed with water. However, recently a video went viral that showed a person steaming momos in Pepsi instead of water. The momos that were being cooked with the soft drink had also adopted a cola-coloured tint on them.
