Social media often introduces us to certain videos, which gain attention, but not for the right reasons. A video is receiving flak online, which seemingly showcases how animals are killed for ordinary home objects. The clip was shared on Instagram, showing how home utensils are made with real animal horns. It starts with two men unloading a truck, filled to the brim with black horns of every size. They drop it into a wide basket and carry it to the factory. Within the factory, the camera captures a small mountain of these horns, where it is accumulated for use. The next scene shows a worker taking one horn and cutting its upper part and lower part, creating a handle of the curve, with a machine. The extended handle is then heated on a burner and bent all the way back, almost touching the mug’s curve. After that, they attach the base of the horn mug to a square wood piece and apply glue to it. Using a fast rotating metal plate, they rub the wood piece to give it the shape of the base, so that it becomes one with it. The mug is smoothened further from each side, looking all polished and is ready to be used. The post is shared with the caption, “Water Glass making with Horns.”
Netizens react to the video, expressing their shock and discomfort at the blatant display. The first user asked, “So you kill an animal just to make a cup?” A second user stated, “It’s 2024 now …stop using animals to make glass please.” While a third user wrote in Hindi, “Jisne inko khrida vo in se bhi bada paapi hai (Whoever bought these, they are even more of a sinner than the makers).” A fourth netizen shared, “Look at that pile of pain and suffering disgusting what humans do to animals.” The video has unsurprisingly amassed over 5.3 million views and thousands of likes on the platform.
