Kevin Kwan’s beloved Crazy Rich Asians book series and its blockbuster film adaptation offered a tantalising glimpse into the opulent lifestyles of Asia’s elite. Recently, this fantasy was brought to life at an extravagant wedding in China. Content creator Dana Wang shared a video on Instagram, revealing the lavish celebration hosted by her incredibly wealthy friend. According to the video, the couple flew all their guests to a luxurious five-star hotel for a five-day stay. To explore the city, guests were provided with Rolls Royce and Bentley cars, complete with private drivers. In an unexpected twist, instead of receiving gifts, each guest was given an envelope containing $800 (approximately Rs 66,000).
The content creator shared, “I have a crazy rich Asian friend and they’re getting married. I live overseas, they flew me and other guests who also live overseas over and they booked all the guests to stay at a 5-star luxury hotel for around 5 days. If you want to get around, my friend gives you a private driver, who will drive you around in a Rolls Royce or Bentley Car. When it came to the big day, the venue was so pretty, it made me feel like I was in Europe again.”
“The craziest thing is that at a typical Chinese wedding, you’ll give red pockets which basically have money to the bride and groom, but since my friend is a crazy rich Asian, they refused to accept red pockets from any guests. Instead, my friend handed around to each guest a red pocket and that’s on top of giving us wedding gifts. So just for attending my friend’s wedding I and other guests got red pockets with $800, wedding gifts almost a week stay at a luxury hotel, a private driver and return flights,” Dana Wang added.
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Goodness gracious what level of a billionaire is this.”
Another shared, “Not having your guests pay to travel to your wedding is pure class.”
“I need a Chinese friend at this point,” a comment read.
Another wrote, “Cries in poor.”
An individual shared, “Next time I get invited to a wedding I’m going to ask how much I’m getting.”
One more added, “They are so humble for gifting the guests. That is so wholesome and shows how much they appreciate the people who came out to celebrate with them.”
Since the video was shared on Instagram, it has garnered over 68 lakh views.
