Woman Gets Pleasant Surprise After Sending Text To Dead Father's Number
Often telecom companies resign old numbers to new subscribers and the woman realises this later.

Losing one’s parents is undoubtedly one of the hardest things. Often people try to cope with this loss by doing unreasonable things. Recently a woman, who lost her father in 2020, texted on her dad’s old phone number and received an unexpected reply. She wrote, “I miss you everyday.” In response, she gets a “??”. She soon realises that her dad’s old phone number must have been resigned to someone else. The woman explains herself and writes, “This is my dad’s old phone number, he passed away in 2020.” She adds, “Was not expecting a response lol.”

Instead of an awkward reply, the person on the other end offers to share a picture of their cat and writes, ‘Wanna see my kitten being silly!” When the woman says yes, the person sends a goofy picture of a black cat. In the adorable photo, the black cat is mid yawn. The woman shared this unexpected but wholesome exchange on Reddit. This post gathered over 52,000 upvotes since it was shared in November 2023.

In the comments, many people appreciated this lighthearted but kind chat and also spoke about how they cope with losing their loved ones.

A Reddit user shared, “I saved my old phone just so I could keep my dad’s old texts to me. He died Thanksgiving in 2017. I miss him (& my mom) so much. This is a kind stranger for sure & definitely a sign he’s still present in your life. Energy never dies, it just manifests in a different form.”

Another wrote, “We kept my dad’s cell phone number active for a long time after he passed away in 2011 so I could hear his voice on his outgoing voicemail box and I also left messages to nowhere when I would feel really vulnerable and heartbroken in the years following his death. I empathise and my thoughts are with you. It’s been 12 years since mine died and while the pain does not go away whatsoever, the scar tissue starts to make the days bearable.”

A Reddit user commented, “Mate – being on Reddit some days can be brutal with all the horrid things going on in the world that people post. This thought is heartwarming and a little bit heart breaking in a good way. I’m sure I could speak for a lot of people here by saying Thank you. The post certainly gave me a breath of fresh air.”
