Woman's Christmas Tree-Throwing Contest Triumph Turns Ugly As She Loses Rs 7 Crore Insurance Claim
A woman in Ireland had her $820,000 (Rs 7 crore) injury claim denied after a photo of her throwing a Christmas tree surfaced.

A woman who was photographed winning a Christmas tree-throwing competition had her $820,000 (Rs 7 crore) insurance claim denied by an Ireland court for injuries she claimed she allegedly sustained in a car accident.

Kamila Grabska, 36, filed a lawsuit against an insurance provider, claiming that she was unable to work for more than five years due to back and neck injuries. In addition, Kamila mentioned that she was unable to play with her kids. Kamila stated that she was left with a “disabling” condition as a result of the vehicle accident she was in in 2017.

However, a high court judge in Limerick rejected her claim after a photo of Kamila Grabska appeared online showing her hurling a five-foot Christmas tree during a charitable event in January 2018.

According to the Irish Independent, Justice Carmel Stewart rejected her claim due to the “graphic nature” of the image that was printed in a national newspaper. “It is a very large, natural Christmas tree, and it is being thrown by her in a very agile movement. I’m afraid I cannot but conclude the claims were entirely exaggerated. On that basis, I propose to dismiss the claim,” the judge said in court, according to The Guardian, citing an article in the Irish Independent.

Kamila Grabska is said to have spoken with doctors shortly after winning the Christmas tree-throwing contest. She stated that she could no longer lift a heavy bag without experiencing shooting pains and had quit her job as well. As per the court, she also received disability payments. She filed a lawsuit against the insurance provider, requesting damages for lost wages from both the past and the future.

According to Kamila Grabska, she sometimes needed her husband to bring her medication because she couldn’t get out of bed for up to half a day.

Furthermore, the woman denied faking her injuries and told the court that she was “trying to live a normal life”. She also emphasised that, despite appearing happy in the photograph, she was still in pain. In addition to the pictures from the Christmas tree contest, the court watched a video of Kamila Grabska training her dog in a park for over an hour. As per the Irish Independent, Grabska told Judge Carmel Stewart that she had won the competition.

The judge ultimately dismissed Kamila Grabska’s case, ruling that her actions following the accident were “completely at odds” with the claims regarding her injuries.
