Former top Clinton aide Huma Abedin is set to marry the younger son of the biggest US billionaire and Democratic donor George Soros. The couple announced their engagement on social media, with Alex Soros sharing a photo of his marriage proposal.

“This happened…we couldn’t be happier, more grateful, or more in love,” Soros wrote in an Instagram post. Abedin, 48, revealed their romance earlier this year in a Valentine’s Day post from Paris.

She has been a loyal ally to Hillary Clinton since her internship in the White House in 1996. Abedin, who is now an MSNBC contributor, served as a top aide in the State Department, and the Clinton Foundation. She also worked during Clinton’s 2016 presidential bid.

In 2011, Abedin faced a public scandal when her then-husband, New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, was embroiled in a sexting controversy. Weiner’s actions, including using the alias “Carlos Danger,” inadvertently affected the 2016 election due to the investigation into his laptop, prompting then-FBI Director James Comey to reopen scrutiny into Clinton’s emails.

Weiner was later sentenced to prison for sexting with a minor, and Abedin divorced him in 2017 after seven years of marriage. They have one son together. Alex meanwhile has drawn attention since taking over his father’s multi-billion-dollar Open Society Foundations in June 2023.

He has engaged with prominent Democrats, including meetings with former President Bill Clinton, Pope Francis, and numerous visits to President Biden’s White House. Soros frequently shares photos with Democratic leaders like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on social media.
