Days after the news of Akira Toriyama’s death, WWE superstars Naomi and Zelina Vega have paid tribute to the iconic Manga artist.
In a recent live event organised by the company, Naomi and Vega performed the ‘Fusion Technique’ which has been used multiple times in Toriyama’s signature comic called Dragon Ball. In the comic, the fusion involves a synchronised dance move from two individuals which would allow them to combine all their powers and become a single being. The video of the dance was shared by Vega on X. In the post, she wrote, “FUUUUUSION! HA!!!”. Naomi later reshared the post with a quote saying, “Fused for life sis”. One fan made sure to let the wrestling star know that the technique only lasts for 30 minutes in the comics to which she replied, “I’m still learning lol”.

Akira Toriyama passed away last week at the age of 68. He lost his life to a disease called acute subdural hematoma. Through his work, Toriyama touched the hearts of millions across the world which explains why so many individuals were deeply affected by the Dragon Ball creator’s sudden demise. His influence also extended to the sporting world with several stars being previously spotted donning Dragon Ball merchandise.
A few years back, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Lebron James sent out a post on Instagram featuring the comic’s characters including Goku, Gohan and Goten. In 2019, Argentina’s legendary footballer Lionel Messi was seen wearing a cap with Vegeta’s image on it. Marseille striker Aubameyang, even pulled off a Dragon Ball celebration when Barcelona took on Real Madrid in 2022. This just goes on to show the impact that Toriyama had in the sports world.

WWE diva Naomi recently made a return to WWE at the Royal Rumble 2024 that was hosted back in January. The female wrestling star shocked the WWE universe when she and Sasha Banks walked out of a company promotion in Stamford back in 2022. She later revealed that she was no longer with the company. She later competed in TNA wrestling where she was able to secure the Knockouts World Championship. With a sensational return back to her former organisation, WWE could now be planning something big for the superstar at WrestleMania 40.
As for Zelina Vega, the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion was recently praised by Puerto Rican wrestler Primo Colon. He was proud of the female star for representing their country’s flag on the biggest pro-wrestling stage. Vega is also one of the few wrestlers who stepped in to defend her fellow star Bianca Belair from racist attacks on social media. It is still unclear if she will get a WrestleMania moment this year.
