Ganga Expressway Set To Open By Dec 31, Delhi To Prayagraj In 7 Hours
With a budget of Rs 36,230 crore, the Ganga Expressway aims to enhance connectivity across 12 districts, spanning 7,453 hectares of land across 518 villages.

The Ganga Expressway, stretching 594 kilometers from Meerut to Prayagraj, is on track to open to the public by December 31 despite the monsoon season.

This ambitious project by the Yogi Adityanath government will link Bijauli in Meerut to Judapur Dandu in Prayagraj, seamlessly connecting Delhi to Prayagraj in about seven hours via the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

According to TOI, the state government has urged construction agencies to speed up work on two major bridges: a 960-meter bridge over the Ganga between Meerut and Badaun, and a 720-meter bridge over the Ramganga between Badaun and Hardoi. The expressway will feature 14 major bridges, 7 railway overbridges, 32 flyovers, and a 3.5-km airstrip in Shahjahanpur for emergency landings.

The Expressways Industrial Authority (UPEIDA) is ensuring that essential structures and the high-speed corridor are completed by the deadline to aid vehicle movement to Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh in January. With a budget of Rs 36,230 crore, the Ganga Expressway will enhance connectivity across 12 districts, covering 7,453 hectares of land.

Designed with a 120-meter width for future expansion, the expressway will initially have six lanes, extendable to eight as needed. Once complete, it is expected to facilitate speeds up to 120 km per hour, enhancing travel efficiency.

Construction is divided into four segments, with IRB Infrastructure handling the Meerut-Badaun section and Adani Infrastructure overseeing the Badaun-Hardoi, Hardoi-Unnao, and Unnao-Prayagraj sections. As of now, significant progress has been made, with 82% of the earthwork on the main carriageway completed and over 1,200 structures already in place out of 1,481 planned.

The expressway will feature main toll plazas in Meerut and Prayagraj, along with 15 additional plazas at entry and exit ramps, and nine service facilities along the route for commuters’ convenience.

“The expressway will significantly reduce travel time across western and eastern Uttar Pradesh,” stated a senior UPEIDA official, highlighting its transformative impact on regional connectivity.
