The Indian Railways has announced plans to operate 315 special trains to and from Puri during the upcoming Ratha Jatra festival.
This initiative aims to support pilgrims, providing them with convenient travel options. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw disclosed this arrangement during a recent meeting with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other officials in New Delhi.
Scheduled to run from July 6 to July 19, these special trains will cover various parts of Odisha. Vaishnaw also assured accommodation for 15,000 devotees in Puri during the festivities. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) specified that these special trains will operate from multiple locations including Badampahad, Rourkela, Baleswar, Sonepur, and others for the Gundicha Jatra. Additional services are planned for Sandhya Darshan, Bahuda Jatra, Suna Vesha, and Adharapana rituals associated with the Ratha Jatra.
According to Times Now, ECoR’s General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal inspected the preparations at Puri station to manage the festival crowd and emphasized completing arrangements well in advance.
In addition to meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the Chief Minister and deputies also engaged with Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jual Oram, and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
They further met with President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Nitin Gadkari. The leaders have been invited to join the Ratha Jatra celebrations in Puri scheduled for July 7.
