IndiGo Airlines is set to launch business class seats on select flights across key domestic and international routes, according to CNBC-TV18.
In a recent earnings call, IndiGo’s CEO Pieter Elbers announced the airline’s entry into the business class market.
“We will have business class seats on India’s busiest routes,” an Indigo official told CNBC-TV18.
These premium seats will be available on 10 to 15 aircraft operating major domestic routes, including Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Bengaluru, and Delhi-Chennai. Passengers in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru can look forward to a luxurious travel experience.
Internationally, business class service will be offered on routes such as Delhi-Dubai, Delhi-Singapore, and Delhi-Abu Dhabi, starting soon.
According to Mint, experts believe IndiGo might offer these business class seats at competitive prices to attract passengers seeking premium services without the high cost. This strategy aims to compete with Air India and Vistara, though IndiGo’s lower fares may come without some luxury amenities like chauffeurs, premium lounges, and dedicated check-in counters.
Reactions to IndiGo’s move have been mixed. Some praise it as a sign of IndiGo’s growth and market strength, while others urge caution, noting the challenges of matching the service quality of full-service international airlines.
IndiGo plans to share more details about its business class strategy in August, coinciding with the airline’s 18th anniversary celebrations.
