Volvo, the Swedish multinational luxury vehicle manufacturer, has initiated a recall for more than 17,000 XC40 models in the United States.
According to the report by HT Auto, this action comes in response to a potential malfunction detected in the left-hand rear turn signal.
This unexpected turn of events marks a rare instance for a company that has built its reputation on pioneering safety features in the automotive industry.
Recall Details:
The recall notice, issued through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), outlines a diagnostic misdetection of a short to ground on the left-hand rear indicator, rendering it inoperable. Drivers will be alerted to the issue through a malfunction message displayed on the instrument cluster, HT Auto report added.
Scope of the Recall:
A total of 14,409 XC40 vehicles, manufactured between October 13, 2022, and December 20, 2023, are included in the recall.
According to the media reports, the central electronic module software supplier, identified as Aptiv Deutschland, is associated with the potential turn signal malfunction.
Discovery of the Issue:
Volvo became aware of the potential problem in November 2023 after receiving a report from the U.S. indicating issues with the left rear turn signal. Following an investigation, the decision to issue a recall was made earlier this month. Fortunately, no injuries or crashes related to the fault have been reported so far.
Resolution and Updates:
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by February 28, 2024, and are advised to take their XC40 models to a dealership.According to the news outlet’s report, the remedy involves updating the software in the central electronic module to address the turn signal malfunction.
Additionally, an over-the-air software update will be implemented at a later date to further enhance the corrective measures.
Exclusions:
It is important to note that the recall does not encompass the 2024 XC40 Recharge, launched in the U.S. last year.
This electric variant, with a starting price of $52,450 (Rs 43,65,274), features an 82 kWh battery pack and a 248 hp electric motor, providing an impressive range of 293 miles (472 km).
