Presenting the Budget for 2020-21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that under the RCS-UDAN Scheme, 100 more regional airports will be built in India. The Regional Connectivity Scheme announced by PM Narendra Modi aims to connect domestic airports with no air connectivity so far.
The RCS-UDAN scheme has a direct bearing on major Airports since the smaller airports have been connected to various big cities. The travelling time has reduced drastically and public at large is benefited for the purpose of tourism, medical emergencies and religious shrines, etc.
Following the three successful rounds of bidding, the Ministry of Civil Aviation also launched the 4th round of Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)- Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik( UDAN) to further enhance the connectivity to remote and regional areas of the country. Focus of this round would be the priority areas like NER, Hilly States, J&K, Ladakh and Islands.

The underserved airports include Lilabari, Belgaum, Pantnagar & Durgapur, while the unserved airports include Kullu, Kalaburgi, Kannar, Dimapur, Hindon & Pithoragarh.
