The suspected bomber in the Bengaluru’s Rameshwaram cafe blast case has been tracked and his identity is being ascertained by the security agencies, said Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Monday.
Addressing the media, Parameshwara said, “The identity of the bomber has been almost confirmed. The special wing CCB and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths are further ascertaining it.”
Investigation into the March 1 blast, that left ten people injured, is being carried out by the National Investigation Agency, which is being assisted by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru police.
Parameshwara added that with good leads on the suspect, officials are inching towards nabbing him.
The NIA on March 9 released photos and videos of the suspected bomber involved in the blast at the city’s popular eatery ‘The Rameshwaram Cafe’ on March 1.
The probe agency also declared a Rs 10 lakh reward for any clues and information leading to the arrest of the suspected bomber. The CCB has also formed several teams to track and nab the accused.
Meanwhile, a cloth merchant from Kaul Bazaar in Ballari and a PFI cadre have been detained by the NIA and CCB as part of their joint probe into the blast.
The Rameshwaram Cafe Blast
On March 1, a man walked into the cafe and set down a bag carrying an improvised explosive device (IED) fitted in it, which had a timer set for an hour, police said, adding that the blast that took place an hour later injured 10 people.
Meanwhile, the investigation teams found that the man who planted the bomb at the food joint travelled from Bengaluru to Tumakuru, Ballari, Bidar and then Bhatkal, sources said.
CCTV footage captured by the cameras at the city bus and bus stand showed that he frequently changed his dress to hide his identity and mislead the investigators.
